City State (pt 2)

Hey there Nerds!

In an earlier post, I talked about my affection for the old D&D modules of the past. I wanted to make a decision about whether or not to support Goodman Games rebuilding of City State of the Invincible Overlord.

City State of the Invincible Overlord (pt 1)

Goodman Games is starting a crowdfunding campaign for a reproduction of City State of the Invincible Overlord formerly published by Judges Guild in the late 19…

I’ve made a few decisions. The first is that I really like the style of Dungeon Crawl Classics by Goodman Games. I’ve ordered my copy. I’ll likely DM that to play older D&D and Pathfinder adventure material, but I’ll talk further about that in another post.

[this week the license holder of Judges Guild apparently decided to post another vile diatribe about his view of the world. This forced Goodman Games to post another explanation of their position and how the project will move forward]

I was actually excited for this project - for I still own pieces of the original from the 80s (some of the maps, etc.) and some of my fave campaigns took place in those places back in the 80s.

I like Goodman Games a lot! Their game products are high quality and fun to play. I understand why they want to produce these classic RPG products. They’re pieces of D&D history. They’re pieces of my D&D history.

It’s obvious, though, that BB Number II (previously referred to as the license holder) can’t help but spew racist fascist crap - and whine about fictional controversies.  Tools gonna tool.  Since he can’t create anything himself apparently, he tries to milk whatever he can from the work his daddy and other talented people produced decades ago.  BB #2 can’t help but try to swindle more people with the same bait.

So, while I’m sure that Goodman Games will produce a wonderful product when this project is complete, I’ve decided not to participate.  I’ll get the fine Lankhmar series and or other great Dungeon Crawl Classics adventure material - stuff that doesn’t have BB #2’s taint on it. I am also working on my own city adventures inspired in part by the adventures my friends and I had many many years ago in a City State far, far away... (see other posts - now and in the future!)

I’ll continue to be inspired by the original city states and wilderlands- and the adventures my friends and I created many years ago.  I’ll draw and redraw my maps and have fun with our own creations.

Please resume punching fascists!
